The Our Planet Environment Trust was formed in 2009 in order to undertake scientific and public education projects that benefit our environment and scientific community. The trust members have a passion for our natural environment. Their involvement can make a real difference.
Vision
To Promote; To Support; To Sustain; To Undertake Environmental research Mission -Promote by raising awareness of scientific achievement in NZ through public knowledge and involvement -Support young and potential scientists through training and knowledge -Sustain by introducing people to our natural environment and the issues within it and to allow existing environmental researchers to continue their work through direct field support -Undertake environmental research in areas where there is a distinct need and benefit to the wider community.
Core Values
Our Planet Environment Trust believes whole heartedly in protecting the environment and assisting those that study and work within it. We strongly believe in the importance of ongoing research and will move to sustain this. Safety The Our Planet Environment Trust is well aware of the dangers of the alpine environment. The Trust will ensure that an experienced alpine guide will accompany any person who goes into the mountains to collect data. A guiding company with a current D.O.C. concession will be contracted to ensure safety and insurance commitments are met.

Who we are...Founders Mark Morrison and Laurel Morrison have over 15 years guiding experience, leading expeditions into some of the most wild and expotic places on the planet. From Canada's rugged mountains, New Zealand's spectacular Southern Alps to Antarctica's frozen desert, they have pooled their extensive science and guiding experience together to offer a unique experience which combines high quality guided eco-adventures with important environmental science projects. Mark Morrison Alpine Guide Mark has worked as an alpine guide in New Zealand, Canada, the Himalayas and Antarctica. In the past 10 years Mark has been involved in a large number of expedition's through-out the world. He was successful on Khan Tengri, a majestic 7000 m mountain in the heart of the Tien Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan, and Ama Dablam, a stunning peak 6856 meters high, in the Nepalese Himalayas.
He has traveled through the Central American jungle to the remote ruins of El Mirador and sea kayaked in the wild Queen Charlotte Island of the northern Canadian coast line. For the last 2 southern hemisphere summer seasons he has trained scientists in polar survival skills for the New Zealand base in Antarctica where he was involved in many amazing field research expeditions including penguin research at Cape Crozier, glacier research in the dry valleys, sea ice research off Ross Island and many more. In addition, Mark is a qualified ski and mountain guide with the New Zealand Mountain Guides Association and has climbed and explored extensively throughout the Southern Alps of New Zealand. His passion and enthusiasm for the environment has prompted him to start a company that creates positive action towards environmental sustainability. Laurel Morrison Msc Glaciology Laurel has worked as scientist and expedition leader for the past 7 years on projects in the remote valleys of the Canadian Coast Mountains, along New Zealand's stunning coastline and within the spectacular Southern Alps.For the past two summer seasons Laurel has joined science teams studying glaciers in Antarctica's Dry Valleys as well as completed her own Master's research on a New Zealand glacier.
Laurel's passion for environmental earth science began with opportunities to work on science projects while obtaining her undergraduate degree and has expanded through developing an extensive field program for her recently completed Master's degree. Laurel also has a history of involving others in her ventures and her enthusiasm for adventure has prompted her toward guiding multi-day sea-kayaking expeditions in both Canada and New Zealand. Her knowledge and experience leading multi-day expeditions and carrying out extended field science in remote wilderness locations has given her the expertise needed to create high quality adventures while maintaining scientific protocols. Laurel is excited to bring eco-tourism and scientific research together and share amazing adventures into New Zealand's stunning environment with people who want to contribute towards creating a sustainable future.
